Research doesn't always move forward in a straight line. Sometimes you are unsure what your data are telling you. Sometimes you are struggling with a category, wondering what to sample next, or trying to figure out what to do when your analysis seems stalled. Sometimes you simply need a place to talk through what is happening in your research with people who understand the Glaserian classic grounded theory approach.

That's what the GCGT Research Lab is for.

Bring Your Research Questions

The GCGT Research Lab is a working space—not another course or lecture series.

Before each GCGT Research Lab session, participants have the opportunity to submit questions or research issues they would like to discuss. Questions are reviewed in advance so that our time together can focus on actual research problems and the issues most relevant to the researchers participating.

Priority is given to:

1. GCGT & GA Research Fellows - Fellows are automatically enrolled in the GCGT Research Lab and receive first priority for questions and research issues.

2. Researchers actively conducting GCGT or GA research - Participants who are actively implementing their GCGT or GA study, including data collection, constant comparative method of analysis, category development, theoretical sampling, or other aspects of the research process, receive the next priority.

3. Other GCGT Research Lab participants - Researchers who are preparing to begin a study or have questions about implementing their GCGT or GA research are also welcome.

The result is a focused conversation about real research questions—not simply a discussion about grounded theory in general.

Participate When It Works for You

RTM works with researchers around the world, so the GCGT Research Lab is currently offered at two different times each month. Attend the session that works for your schedule. If more than one session works for you, you're welcome to attend both. You don't have to choose a single recurring meeting time, and you don't have to attend every session.

What Can You Bring to the GCGT Research Lab?

You don't need to have a perfectly formed question. If you're stuck, submit your problem so we can help you work through it.

Is the GCGT Research Lab Right for You?

The GCGT Research Lab is specifically designed for researchers using classic grounded theory or grounded action. It is intended for researchers who want support that is consistent with these approaches. The GCGT Research Lab does not provide methodological guidance for constructivist grounded theory, Straussian grounded theory, or other grounded theory variants. If your research uses one of these approaches, the GCGT Research Lab is not the appropriate setting for methodological questions about your study. If you are unsure whether your approach fits, please contact us before enrolling.

A Place to Stay Connected to Your Research

The GCGT Research Lab can support you at different points in your research journey.

After the GCGT Research Intensive: Completing the GCGT Research Intensive doesn't mean your research questions stop. The GCGT Research Lab gives you a place to continue working on your research, stay connected to the research community, and keep making progress while you prepare to enter the next Fellowship cohort.

During the GCGT & GA Research Fellowship: GCGT Research Lab participation is not required before entering the GCGT & GA Research Fellowship. GCGT & GA Research Fellows are automatically enrolled in the GCGT Research Lab to provide the group mentoring component of the GCGT & GA Research Fellowship, complemented by individualized mentoring through the Fellow's research study and write-up. 

For Independent Researchers: You don't need to be an RTM student, Fellow, or member to participate. If you're already conducting or implementing GCGT or GA research, the GCGT Research Lab provides an ongoing place to bring questions and work through challenges as they arise.

GCGT Research Lab: Ongoing research support when you need it.

$49/month with a three-month minimum commitment. Cancel anytime after your first three months.

Your GCGT Research Lab membership includes:

• Access to both GCGT Research Lab sessions offered each month
• Attend either session or both, depending on your schedule
• Advance submission of research questions and research issues
• Priority consideration for questions based on your stage of research
• Participation in focused discussions of real GCGT and GA research problems
• Ongoing access to the Lab for as long as it supports your research

GCGT & GA Research Fellows are automatically enrolled at no additional cost.
