Reading Research Like a Writer - March 14, 2025, 3 pm PT/6 pm ET

Unlock the Secrets of Scholarly Writing: Master the Rhetorical Moves in Your Field

Language: English

Instructors: Ryan Dippre

Description

Novice researchers in a field face many challenges (some of them quite daunting!), but perhaps the murkiest problem is that of writing as a member of a discipline.  How do people in a given discipline write?  How do we know?  What should we look at to study this?

This webinar leads attendees through the concept of reading research like a writer: that is, reading research to track the rhetorical moves that are used in a given field, how they are used, and when and why those rhetorical moves might be taken up in a particular text.  Attendees will leave the webinar with a guide to studying the writing in their field more closely, and bringing those rhetorical choices to bear in their own writing.
