Classic grounded theory is a research method used to systematically generate theory, grounded in data, about patterns of human behavior. The Classic Grounded Theory Research Symposium is an opportunity for students, faculty, and researchers to learn more about the process of conducting a classic grounded theory study. Participants may register for individual sessions or for the whole day. The symposium will consist of six sessions on January 28, 2023:

  1. Overview of Classic Grounded Theory, 8:00-8:45 am PT
  2. Starting a Classic Grounded Theory Study and Data Collection Workshop, 9:00-10:30 am PT
  3. Substantive Coding in Classic Grounded Theory: Open and Selective Coding Workshop, 10:45 – 12:15 pm PT
  4. Constant Comparative Method of Data Analysis & Memoing Workshop, 12:45 – 2:15 pm PT
  5. Sorting, Theoretical Coding, & Theoretical Outline and Question & Answer Session, 2:30 – 4:00 pm PT
  6. Writing-up a Theory & Integrating Literature & Examples and Question & Answer Session , 4:15 – 5:45 pm PT
